Act Onetitubaswmus1.jpg

Set in Salem Massachusetts in the late 1600's, when the government is ruled solely through religion. Everyone is extremely religious and everything must be played by the church's rules. Meaning no witchcraft what so ever, or else punishable by being sent to the gallows. Most people end up just getting into arguements about land ownership and property.

Reverend Parris is introduced in the beginning kneeling aside his daughter Betty's bed. Rumor around the town is that there is witchcraft going around the city and that Betty is the victim of the chaos. Once her father has been convinced of this mayham, he calls for Reverend Hale who says to be and expert on witchcraft. Parris seemed sure of himself that his niece Abigail and slave Tituba were with some other girls in the forest dancing and conversing with the devil. Once confronted by Parris Abagail tried to assure him that there was nothing of the sort going on and they were just dancing around and having a good time.

Elizabeth and Abagail were not on good terms as it were since she had accused her of having an affair with her husband. She wanted to prove that Abagail is indeed working for the devil. Solumn news had gone around town that Mrs. Putnam had had seven children and each had died within a day of their birth. She had been convinced that this was the result of witchcraft.

Betty finally wakes from her coma like state and begs for her mother, only that her mother was dead and burried. Abigail then informs the girls that Parris knows everything about the woods. Betty yells that she did not tell him about the drinking of blood to try and kill Elizabeth. Furious Betty is slapped and reminded that they are only to say that they were dancing with Tituba and she was the one who tried to bring back Ruth's dead sisters. After hearing this Betty continues to go back into her coma like state.
